HARAJUKU / AOYAMA / OMOTESANDO
A mix of tree lined avenues, street-side cafes, fashionable shops and youthful energy - this area is one of the best for a stroll, window shopping, or just people watching. Yoyogi Park, the largest park in Tokyo, is only a step away from JR Harajuku Station, and is a popular foreigners spot for lying in the sun, roller blading, and hanging-out with family and friends. Meiji-Jingu shrine, just outside the station, is one of the best Shinto shrines in all Japan. Directly in front of the station is Takeshita-dori, a narrow, trendy pedestrian shopping street with all types of shops, and the cruising area for young people. On most weekends, near the entrance to the Meiji-Jingu Shrine, you'll find the counter-culture gothic youth of Japan displaying their afffinity to outlandish costumes, clothing styles and make-up.
