Meguro is a nice residential neighborhood and less hectic than the major hubs of Tokyo - but is only a few stops from Shibuya and Shinjuku. Meguro Station has several train and subway lines - including the Yamanote JR line - so is very convenient. There are also a good variety of restaurants and bars in the area.
