TOKYO ONE DAY TRAVEL ITINERARY

You can fit in a lot of sightseeing in even with only one day in Tokyo. The train and subway system make it easy to get about, and some of the most popular tourist spots areas are within walking distance of each other. #1 - SHIBUYAOne Day Map A-2

Out the Hachiko Exit at Shibuya Station is ‘Shibuya Crossing', Tokyo’s most famous intersection. The peak time is late afternoon, but you’ll get the idea. There is a Starbucks overlooking the crossing, providing a good place to grab both a morning coffee and photos.

#2 - YOYOGI PARKOne Day Map A-2

Next head North through the maze of Shibuya shopping streets to Yoyogi Park, the largest public park in Tokyo - about a 30 minute walk. Yoyogi park is 150 acres of green space, trees, benches. Going right is heading toward Harajuku Station and the Meiji-Shrine.

#3 - MEIJI JINGU SHRINEOne Day Map A-2

The main square is a 15 minute walk through forest. Rinse your hands and mouth with water from fountains before the final torii gate. Before the ritual area the public can pray. On weekends shinto wedding processions march slowly through; keep well back from their pathway, but photos are okay.

#4 - HARAJUKU / TAKESHITA-DORI STREETOne Day Map A-2

Harajuku is one of the top shopping and hang out areas in Tokyo. Takeshita-dori street is a narrow, crowded half kilometer long lane of fashion stores, crepe stands, and frilly stuff. The side streets of Harajuku also have many places.

#5 OMOTESANDO / LUNCHOne Day Map A-2

Omotesando offers more shopping and is only a 20 minute walk away. By now you’ll be feeling hungry, so fortunately there are many restaurants and cafes. After eating, take the Ginza line to Ginza Station.

#6 - GINZAOne Day Map C-3

Ginza is the capital of luxury shopping in Tokyo. There are shop galore and many art galleries and small boutiques. Click the 'Ginza' banner on the right for Ginza info and listings!.

#7 - IMPERIAL PALACEOne Day Map C-2

From Ginza station it is a 15 minute walk to the Imperial Palace grounds. It's not possible to enter, but you can walk up to the moat and, before 4pm, go up to the front entry gates. Afterward, take the MARUNOUCHI line to Shinjuku!

#8 SHINJUKU & GOVERNMENT BUILDINGOne Day Map A-2

The Tokyo Government building is a ten minute walk away from the West exit of Shinjuku station. There is a free lift to the top floor floor, with great views of Tokyo. Mt. Fuji can be seen when the weather is clear. Best time to catch the view is late afternoon before sunset!

#9 - SHINJUKU EAST SIDE and KABUKICHOOne Day Map A-2

While the West side of Shinjuku has skyscrapers and spacious pavilions, the East side is the main shopping district, with a pedestrian area of shops and stores. North-east of Shinjuku station is Kabukicho, Tokyo's subdued red light district, more lively in the evening.

DINNER

You can find great dining options almost anywhere, and it doesn't have to be an expensive to get a delicious, well-prepared Japanese meal. For Western fare, Roppongi and Shibuya are both good bets with many international restaurants and a more diverse array of cuisine.

BARS / DRINKING

Shinjuku, Shibuya or Roppongi are the top areas for nightlife. Roppongi is where most foreigners go out and most places have English speaking staff. Shibuya has a good number of late night spots, but is less international. Shinjuku has several bars, but is less a dance club area.

CLUBBING / DANCE CLUBS

Most clubs don't really get going until after midnight, so best to plan a late night or have enough money for the taxi ride home. Shibuya places tend to have a more Japanese vibe, but are usually 'gaijin' friendly. The clubs in Roppongi are more international and include hip-hop and salsa dance clubs.
